I went into a store a few weeks ago just to look around and I saw a table with a few cell phones on it and decided to look into the pricing listed (this phone was listed as an upgrade for just $49.99). I wasn’t really sure I qualified but it looked good enough for $50 that it would be a nice upgrade to my old LG Shine.
What an understatement. Ok, this phone is not as capable as an IPhone. So what? You can get it for less money, it has fairly easy controls to operate it, and texting is very easy with it. I could not be happier with it and highly recommend this phone to anyone who wants an easy to use phone/texting combo.
Easily store many numbers and names for snap dialing to necessary people. When you need to talk this thing makes it easy for you to do so. I could not be happier with it. Didn’t I say that already.
Great phone. I cannot believe the list price. I find it to be perfect for my needs. I use it mainly as a business phone.
Look into this before you buy something a lot more expensive. If you can get a great phone AND save money, you then have nothing to lose but the price.

The battery life is nearly twice that of the N96. Granted, I’m not in a 3G coverage area (it’s not even supported in the US for this phone, just EDGE), but I can last at least 2 days per charge with heavy browsing, music listening, and “messing around” for a few hours, on this device.
Symbian S60 is an awesome OS, but it is beginning to show its age (especially after coming from an iPhone). However, Symbian is my favorite OS by far, but perhaps that is largely biased by my “geeky” figure-it-out-as-you-go nature. Now, it isn’t HARD to use, it’s just not as user friendly as some of the newer, more mainstream devices are. And this isn’t a problem at all for me. The third party app. development for S60 is strong as ever. Immediately after unboxing, I installed both a p2p and a torrent app. This is a pretty amazing and convenient feature, for a phone. Granted, I have not used Windows Mobile, but I’m sure there are similar apps available for that as well. However, finding and installing those apps was very easy and non-problematic on the i8510’s S60 OS. Not to mention, there are thousands of more useful apps available for your perusal (but they may take some effort to find; there is no “App Store” for easy-as-biscuits app-discovery and installation).

The hardware on this phone is amazing. It has an optical mouse for true, PC-like web browsing. Long gone are the days of using a 4-way directional pad for choppy and slow browsing on the included WebKit browser. With the optical mouse, the web is smooth and flowly to browse. And the sensitivity is easily alterable as per your own personal preference. I opted to increase the sensitivity vastly, which makes it even easier to use. Unlike most high-end Nokia phones (excluding some of the E-series), a good amount of hard, sexy metal is employed in the device design. This both makes it very sturdy as well as visually and tactically appealing to the fingers. Perhaps one of the few things Apple does right is incorporate metal into their devices; the new Macbooks being a prime example. I am very happy that this is being more generously applied to other electronics by other manufacturers now, and I hope it continues.

This phone is a TRUE smart phone OS which means you can download apps for it such as VPN software to connect to your office network and apps such as PUTTY or RDP clients to remote control real computers at the house/office. With 3G speeds the potential is limitless.
Now for the bad. Nokia decided to use the old ARM II CPU found in the N85, 95, etc. phones but increased the clockspeed (mhz) slightly. We were looking forward to the new TI cpu which would have provided much better speeds, at the cost of battery life. They also stuck with 128mb ram with about 80mb available after boot up. I don’t know about you but after I load up all of my apps and get cranking, I eat that up. I was able to notice some slow down in the pre-build when I:
-opened up several websites w/ flash content
-ran the music player
-opened up ‘widget’ applications
-tried basic functionality

Most users will probably never do that. If you are a power user, then you probably already know about the Samsung Omnia HD which boasts of similer features, but also the new faster CPU and dedicated GFX chip which means you can play Ipod type 3d games with ease. The final point is with the potentially underpowered CPU, you will not be able to play the super high resolution videos the Samsung can play.
Finally this phone has the slower 3G speeds which don’t reach 7mbps, will you need 7mbps? Probably not. I think for 99% of users, the current 3G speeds offered by this phone are fine.

First let me start by saying that I’ve owned this phone for a month already and im VERY HAPPY with it. It feels solid in your hands id does not freeze at all, like the n96 when you fill up the memory. Before i bought this phone i owned the nokia n95 (great device) and the nokia N96(more memory but not so good) The only reason i did not give this nokia 5800 five starts its because of the camara quality which by the way is good but the n95 and n96 were better quality camaras and also video recording capabilities.

i scanned some of the other reviews and there is a lot of product information available on this page, so i will try not to be redundant to what is already been said/listed here.
i was a sidekick user for years (sk 2 and sk 3), but displeased with a lot of aspects. so i switched to blackberry. well, having lost my blackberry, for whatever reason, i took a look at the sidekick 08.
a lot of my complaints/issues with previous sidekicks have been fixed. the size and thinness (and related to that the ergonomics, at least for me, the way it fits in my hands) is a vast improvement. the browser seems to be improved over past versions, though it is not 3G, it does operate on the same data network that the sk3 did, and i’m not sure if it’s the browser or the network that has improved, but the speed and overall quality (pulling up webpages like myspace used to be a nightmare) has improved. (these are just a few of many improvements, i’m trying not to make this into a laundry list.)

The law in California is about to change. Begining next month its going to be illegal to use a cell phone in the car, unless its hands free. Otherwise I’d never have bought this, or any other headset. In principle I don’t like the idea of using a phone when driving - its just too distracting. So, I generally only use the phone to say ‘I’m stuck in traffic, gonna be late…bye’. So, I’d hate to use my phone without a headset and end up getting a ticket for that!
Needless to day, I therefore don’t have experience of any more that a couple of other headsets.

Pros:
BROWSER! Awesome, quick, faster than my friends’ blackberry 8900 when performing the same search.
Touchscreen. I had a Samsung Behold for two days before I returned it and went for the G1. The G1 screen is SO much more responsive and so easy to use. Scroll Ball. SOOOO much better than my Curve’s scroll bar. And it doesn’t get dirty so easily.
