I went into a store a few weeks ago just to look around and I saw a table with a few cell phones on it and decided to look into the pricing listed (this phone was listed as an upgrade for just $49.99). I wasn’t really sure I qualified but it looked good enough for $50 that it would be a nice upgrade to my old LG Shine.
What an understatement. Ok, this phone is not as capable as an IPhone. So what? You can get it for less money, it has fairly easy controls to operate it, and texting is very easy with it. I could not be happier with it and highly recommend this phone to anyone who wants an easy to use phone/texting combo.
Easily store many numbers and names for snap dialing to necessary people. When you need to talk this thing makes it easy for you to do so. I could not be happier with it. Didn’t I say that already.
Great phone. I cannot believe the list price. I find it to be perfect for my needs. I use it mainly as a business phone.
Look into this before you buy something a lot more expensive. If you can get a great phone AND save money, you then have nothing to lose but the price.

This phone is a TRUE smart phone OS which means you can download apps for it such as VPN software to connect to your office network and apps such as PUTTY or RDP clients to remote control real computers at the house/office. With 3G speeds the potential is limitless.
Now for the bad. Nokia decided to use the old ARM II CPU found in the N85, 95, etc. phones but increased the clockspeed (mhz) slightly. We were looking forward to the new TI cpu which would have provided much better speeds, at the cost of battery life. They also stuck with 128mb ram with about 80mb available after boot up. I don’t know about you but after I load up all of my apps and get cranking, I eat that up. I was able to notice some slow down in the pre-build when I:
-opened up several websites w/ flash content
-ran the music player
-opened up ‘widget’ applications
-tried basic functionality

Most users will probably never do that. If you are a power user, then you probably already know about the Samsung Omnia HD which boasts of similer features, but also the new faster CPU and dedicated GFX chip which means you can play Ipod type 3d games with ease. The final point is with the potentially underpowered CPU, you will not be able to play the super high resolution videos the Samsung can play.
Finally this phone has the slower 3G speeds which don’t reach 7mbps, will you need 7mbps? Probably not. I think for 99% of users, the current 3G speeds offered by this phone are fine.

We both prefer this phone over the Samsung Blackjack. It is easy to use, I love the slider option for texting and surfing and that the screen is bigger than what I’m used to. I also like that I have the vertical slider option for a regular phone pad.
We have not had any problems with the sliders coming lose and we are both rough on phones. I believe the issue was fixed before we purchased. Please keep this in mind when reading older reviews.
The speed of this phone when surfing is quicker than the Blackjack. The camera is also better than what I was used to. Although I cannot zoom when taking the actual picture, there is a zoom feature when looking at the photo. Sending pictures is a snap.

My 2 year old motorola beats this thing hands down. Rugbys texting really really sucks, not user friendly very slow no auto complete as my old motorola had. It also has about half of the battery life of the old Motorola.
Oh ya while we are at it all of you ptt engineers out there fix the software so the ptt can be locked out! This does not take a genius to figure out that people want this option “my motorola sucked in this dept as well”.
As for a working mans phone why the heck isn’t the clock visible on the face when the phone is closed? Working guys don’t want to open up the phone to see what time it is!

Data Cable

I took a chance and purchased this cable. It works. I have a Samsung Eternity A867 from AT&T. I installed the New Samsung PC Studio from Samsung and used the drivers from their website. I did not try the mini CD that came with the cable as the program an older version of the softaware needed to transfer items to and from the phone. My PC is running Vista SP1 and I had no problems using this cable. I had more problems trying to setup a bluetooth connection which is why I bought the cable.

Headset

Here is an honest review for those who are looking for a good headset. I purchased the Plantronic Voyager 510 over two years ago to go with my Katana phone. The problem I was having with the 510 was that the signal would drop a lot, so much that I called Plantronic and they told me that the Katana was not compatible with the 510. However, they’re customer service was excellent. They told me that cell phones control headset, headsets don’t control phones. Cell phones send out signals and headsets pick up the signal. But to make sure I didn’t have a defected headset, they sent me a new 510 hoping that will solve the problem. However it didn’t. So I was convinced that it was the headset, not my Katana.
